Family vacations are supposed to be a bonding experience, but for some, they turn into a logistical game run by secret committees. This one stars a well-meaning couple who gift Disneyland passes to their in-laws, only for the gesture to boomerang when the in-laws opt out and immediately start plotting a new trip with other relatives. When a holiday plan finally includes the couple, it's clear they weren't exactly high on the invite list. The car gets detailed, the tires get rotated, and the calendar gets optimistically marked, but at the last second, the whole family piles into a different vehicle and leaves the couple in charge of their own solitary road trip.

The hands-off approach to togetherness isn't subtle. "No room in the car" hits differently when everyone involved had a seat at the planning table except the couple who paid for the original Disney fantasy. It's the kind of gracious exclusion that doubles as a passive-aggressive thank-you note. Not only do they foot the bill, but they get the pleasure of pretending this was always the plan.

I do everything in my power to keep family peace so avoid situations that I think might be a trigger point. Do you and your wife argue in the car? I feel like there's more to the story
